Pig Frog
Lithobates grylio

The Pig Frog (Lithobates grylio) is a large green frog that superficially resembles the American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbianus).

Pig Frogs are somewhat smaller than Bullfrogs overall, their snout is a bit more "pointed" and their longest toe on the hindfoot is webbed all the way to the tip.

The easiest way to distinguish them at a distance is by their calls.  The name Pig Frog is a reference to their pig-like grunt.

I have been fooled before into thinking I was hearing feral pigs when in a pond with Pig Frogs calling.

This Pig Frog was recorded in Pasco County, Florida.
